We are off to a great start! These first three days of 2nd grade have been filled with smiles, laughs and a few jitters! Already, we are learning our routines and classroom expectations. As a class we have decided on 5 class rules:
Rule # 1- Listen when others are talking.
Rule # 2- Follow directions quickly.
Rule # 3- Show respect to others and the school.
Rule # 4- Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.
Rule # 5- Work quietly and quickly.
We also created a class motto for ideas and attitudes we want to have towards each other like helping, using kind words, telling the truth, working hard and being yourself. The class is working well together and learning what each student has to offer.
We completed a Envisions pre-assessment which will allow me to see each child's current skill level. Next week, we will begin daily math lessons. This week we also completed a sight word assessment of Level 1 Fundations Words. The words that students could not spell will become future spelling words. Other activities we completed included making goals for the year, completing an All About Me poster and a s'more writing. We listened to the stories The Name Jar, The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School, Enemy Pie and Amelia Bedelia Goes Camping. Next week's story will be Ruby the Copycat and we will begin to discuss narrative writing
Your child is bringing home a small gift to keep all year long to display their hard work at home.
Enjoy the weekend!
