Week of August 24th

three raised hands

Our first full week of school is complete! This week, we read the story Ruby the Copy Cat. We talked about the beginning, middle and end of stories. When your child is reading at home, have them recall these parts of the story. We will continue this skill next week with the story Pigsty. The story of a boy who has a room that is messy and it keep getting messier. I wonder if any of the students can relate! We will finish up compound words and move on to nouns.  In writing, we are working to understand the writing process and how to write a narrative. Centers were introduced and we hope to try them out next week!

We have started Envisions Math and are working with learning addition and subtraction strategies. Next week, look for students to have their log-in and passwords in their binders so they can access games and resources at home. Students can practice their doubles facts like 1+1, 2+2, etc. We learned the math game, Chop.

Our rules and responsibilities unit will wrap up next week. This week, we discussed how different settings have different rules. We read the story Clark the Shark and learned to "Stay Cool and Follow the Rules".

Important Information:
* There has been a misprint regarding 2nd grade fees. The total is $38 NOT $42. Sorry for the confusion.
* Next week, we will be collecting non-perishable and canned goods for the Avon vs. Avon Lake CRS Souper Bowl.
* Spelling Words: The paper that comes home saying pretest on Mondays is the student's spelling words for the week.
* Record nightly reading on the calendar at the front of the planner located in student binders.
* Next week, you will get a letter regarding Gradebook Wizard.
* Reminder there is a PTA meeting on Wednesday, September 2nd at 3:45.

Thanks,
Miss Wilhelm
