It has been a hot week but we survived (with a little help from a mid-week Popsicle break)! Next week is looking cooler! Remember that we have a short week with NO SCHOOL Monday. With the short week, the students will receive a shortened spelling list with the 10 curriculum words NO sight words. Pre- test will be on Tuesday.
We are continuing to work through our addition and subtraction unit 1. It should be wrapping up next week so keep an eye out for test information (practice & date the week of 9/14 ). During our math lessons, we have started using centers which are helping differentiate the instruction and meet all student needs. Next week, we will take our Math MAP assessment. We took our reading this week. This is a district-wide assessment that all grade levels take 3 times a year.
Our story of the week was Pigsty, a story about Wendell and his room that gets messier and messier with help from some pigs. Students wrote about whether their rooms were messy or clean. Based on some of their desks, I already knew their answer! This week we won the "Golden Sneakers" for being the quietest class in the halls. There were some jealous 3rd and 4th grade classes who wanted them! This inspired our journal for this week which was if we could turn anything gold, it would be... Answers included asparagus (so you don't have to eat it) and brothers (so they leave me alone)!
We are finished for now with compound words. But we will miss the Compound Boogie song/dance so we will have to come back and review! Our next grammar skill is nouns. We started by making Sentence Man. Sentence man has 4 important parts: capital, noun, verb and punctuation. They are in the hall but will be home soon.
Gradebook wizard letters will be provided with log-in information and please if you have not yet, update INFOsnap. Students also now have their log-ins for Envisions and Raz-Kids in their binders. Both great opportunities for extra reading and math practice. This weekend I will update the blog with working links under resource to access these sites from home.
We will go on a field trip to the library on October 7th to the library at 9. If you are able to attend, please email me. I'll email you back with confirmation.
Enjoy the long weekend,
Miss Wilhelm
