Week of November 9th

*** The school district is working hard to restore the email. They are hoping to have all restored by Monday! Please continue to use notes and phone calls as your form of communication. Once it is restored, I will send out a email. ***

Thanksgiving is less than 2 weeks away! And next week is a busy one so here is some information you will need to know:

* Tuesday, November 17th: Scholastic Book Fair- The book fair is all week but we will visit as a class and make a wishlist/shop on the 17th. Students may bring money with them. Also, purchases can be made before and after school throughout the week.

*Wednesday, November 18th: W.O.W.- Walk With A Friend- For our final walk, students may invite a friend/family members who can join us for the walk. We will walk from around 9:15 to 9:30 outside weather permitting. Inside if needed. Please come and walk with us!

*Also on the 18th is COSI. If you can help out, the PTA & Redwood students would greatly appreciate it. We will be going around 11:20 in case you want to be a volunteer while your child in there.

This week our story was The History of Jeans. We learned about Levi Strauss, the history of jeans, how they are made and how they have changed over time. Our focus skills were main idea, non-fiction text features and vocabulary. We learned about the blue indigo coloring used, the rivets used to reinforce the pockets and how jeans can be custom made. In writing, we expressed our opinion if we would rather have to wear jeans or sweatpants everyday and why.

I was very pleased overall on how students did on the Topic 4 assessment. Good-bye addition for now and hello subtraction! On Wednesday, we stopped to thank the Veterans who sacrificed themselves so that we can be free. In our hallway, we hung hand print eagles and shared our thanks to the Veterans. A special event from that day was that the eagles also wanted to celebrate the Veterans so both returned to the nest so we were able to watch them on the camera. It was pretty special! We also read Red Leaf, Yellow Leaf and did a leaf print project.

I will be out for as district Math meeting on Monday morning but will be back for the afternoon.
Thanks,
Marissa Wilhelm
