Week of November 2nd

I can't believe it is ALREADY November! Can't beat the beautiful weather this week! Report cards went home on Thursday and how exciting to see the growth we have already made! And how exciting to see where we can end up by the end of the year. I have already prepared the students that I may not let them move on to third grade without me!

Our story of the week was The Many Lives of Benjamin Franklin. He was a man who did many things for the freedom of our country and he made many inventions. We also talked about the many quotes he made famous like a penny saved is a penny earned, time is money and never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today. We talked how these quotes can apply to us today! This week, we picked the biographies that students will be researching this quarter. The majority of the work and research will happen at school. But look for information coming home soon about the Wax Museum in January which will showcase our biographies. To go along with the story we wrote facts about Benjamin Franklin on (Seen above). During centers, we read biographies, made all about me adjective posters, search, found and wrote v-e words and used Raz-Kids.

The students have really enjoyed regrouping and have really gotten the hang of it! Math review is coming home today and is due back on TUESDAY, November 10th. The test will be on Wednesday. At the end of the week, we will start Topic 5 which is subtraction. This week we tried out the online site, Sumdog. We are going to practice it here at school a couple of times and then I will share the information so you can access it at home too.

Our social studies in integrated into our language arts with biographies. We learned about Ben Franklin and Alexander Graham Bell. We also had some fun with pumpkin pie! We sampled a pie and wrote our own (unique!) pumpkin pie recipes. Some of the recipes would taste better than other!

We have having a pencil shortage right now so if you are out this weekend and could pick us up a box of pencils, we would greatly appreciate it. We have some pencil monsters in the classroom who like to gobble up our pencils!
