When students starting showing up in their costumes on Thursday, I was SO excited! They made the museum come alive! Thank you so much for helping with the costumes! The night was such a great success! Everyone did a FANTASTIC job! A student said that they were "melting" from the heat since their were made of wax! BRAVO, BRAVO! A special thanks to the Avon Lake Drama Club for supplying us with the decorations and props.
This week, we read and listened to The Gingerbread Man. In our version, the wolf asks the gingerbread man to come a little closer because he could not hear him and gobbles him up! We also watched a song version and compared it to The Runaway Tortilla, a Spanish version. During centers, students created plans to stop the gingerbread from escaping and learned about homophones. We are reading additional fairy tales in our reading groups. Students have begun brainstorming and planning their own fairy tale. The objective is to have a finished piece that has a clear beginning, middle and end.
We are finishing up Topic 8 on Money & Time. The test will be on Friday, February 5th. The review that usually comes home will be completed in class for additional review. Students should be to read and write time to the 5 minutes. Also, they should have an understanding that there is an a.m. and p.m for each time. This week, have your child be aware of times and read different clocks. We made watches as we began practicing time and we created a time schedule from when we wake up, throughout a school day and up to bedtime. When asking about their bedtimes, I got quite a few times like 3 o'clock, midnight and whenever I want! In social studies, we wrote about how we would spend, give and save if we had $100. Students wrote about giving to the poor, their churches, their parents and foster children. What kind, generous children! They are saving up and spending their money on Legos, Nerf, Disney Trips, American Girl Dolls and much more!
Thanks again for being a part of the Wax Museum! What a great 2nd grade memory.
