Happy St. Patrick's Day! There was a lot of green and gold on Thursday! To celebrate we made a bar graph with Lucky Charms! We had a Scholastic News about the castles of Ireland. Over spring break, I am traveling to Ireland so I will get to see the castles in real life! I am very excited and will be taking 100's of pictures to share with the class. Hopefully a souvenir as well!
Our story of the week was Elephants. A nonfiction story about both Asian and African elephants. Skills we practiced with the story were main idea, comparing & contrasting and nonfiction text features. Our writing for the week was a persuasive paragraph about an elephant or giraffe. Elephants were the favorite.
In math, we are in a geometry jungle! The beginning of Topic 15 is all about polygons including triangles (3), quadrilaterals (4), pentagons (5) & hexagons (6). We learned that the number of sides, vertices and angles are always equal so if there is 3 sides then there are 3 angles and 3 vertices. To practice this skill we made Shape Faces that turned out adorable. We have Chuck the Rectangle, Elizabeth the Hexagon, Jim the Circle and so many more! The second half of the topic is 3-D shapes. We will complete the topic after we return from Spring Break.
Our habitat food chains are complete! This week, we read a fiction story about making a mural and working together to do our best! Students are now working with their partner to make a mural that shows all of the plants and animals found in their habitat.
With only 3 days next week, we will have NO spelling. On Wednesday morning, we will head to the library for a field trip on habitats and animals. Only 3 days but they will be very, very busy!
Thanks so much,
Marissa Wilhelm
