Thank you for coming in for conferences this week! It is always nice to take the time to share one-on-one with you about your children's strengths and goals for the 4th quarter. I can't believe that in a week's time, we will be starting the 4th and final quarter of second grade! While I am sad to even think of it, I have seen such growth and maturity from all students as they are preparing to become 3rd graders!

This week's story was Ibis: A True Whale Story. We had a good time with the story including making a 3-D whale with a speech bubble and learning how to draw a humpback whale. In math, we are finishing Topic 10- Adding to 1,000. The test will be Monday, March 14th. A review sheet came home with students yesterday. Please return it Monday as we will look it over before the test to answer any last minute questions. We are going to jump ahead to Topic 15 (We will come back to Topics 11-14!) in math which is Shapes & Their Attributes. Students will learn to identify and draw two-dimensional shapes and three-dimensional cubes. Another skill they will learn is to partition a rectangle into rows and columns of equal-sized squares and count to find the total number of squares. This is an introduction to finding area of a shape. Symmetry is another skill that will be practiced.

Habitat research is continuing! Students have started their Power Points in media. In the classroom, the food webs have begun and next up is a collage! On the 23rd we will be going to the library to learn about habitats. Our culminating activity for the habitat unit for all of Redwood's second graders will be a field trip to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. The date is Monday, April 10th. Students will need to pack their lunch this day. Permission forms will come home next week. The cost is $7 and it must be in the form of a check. We are allowed 3  parent volunteers per classroom so if you are interested, please email me. I will randomly (probably the good old fashion pull from a hat) draw names if I have multiply parents wanting to attend. Additional parents can come but will have to pay for themselves and drive down on their own. Look for the information next week and contact me with any questions.

Thanks again for attending conference!
