This week started in November and ended in December! Our Thanksgiving breaks were exciting and busy! As we get ready for December, we wrote about what makes us grouchy like the Grinch, elf applications because Santa is hiring and a Christmas tree countdown. Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year!
We have begun Unit 3 in Wonders- Live & Learn: What have you learned about the world that surprises you? Week one was The Earth's Forces. The essential question was How do the Earth's forces affect us? One story was Magnets Work! which was a review of our science unit including repelling, attracting and the poles. Our comprehension skill was author's purpose which is why an author has written the story. Author's purpose is as easy as pie... P for persuade, I for inform and E for entertain. Our vocabulary included true, speed, proved and amazing.
Topic 5 is complete. Topic 6 is a continuation of 2 digit subtraction. Next week, we will be learning borrowing. We will get through and assess this topic before the winter break. Students worked extremely hard on their math MAP assessments. We will take the reading assessment on Thursday. Students are reading their biography books and additional information will come home next week. You have plenty of time for costumes that are not needed until the new year but you may want to borrow something from family members or friends you see over the break.
December Activities:
* Snowflake Shop is on Wednesday. Information came home this week including shopping list, labels and money bag.
* Christmas Programs are on Wednesday, December 14th. The 2nd grade performance is from 1:45 to 2:15.
* Our Christmas class celebration will be on Wednesday, December 21st. More information will follow.
Keep warm! It is starting to feel like winter!
