Week of December 5th

snowflakes3
Thank you for those that were able to help out at this week's Snowflake Shop. The students loving having their shopping lists and money to spend! It is one of my favorite holiday traditions at Redwood. A few weeks ago, a reporter contacted us and asked if we could ask Santa one question, what would it be? HERE is the article. We also wrote letters to Santa. Most of the students through they have been nice at least at school!

Despite the busy schedule, we are continuing on with Topic 6. We learned a few rhymes to help us know when and when not to regroup. They go like this... More on the floor, go next store and get 10 more. More on the top, no need to stop! The plan is to assess this topic before the break. By earlier next week, I will let you know if that is still the plan! We are getting there but if we have to wait until after the break, then we will wait.

This week, we read about the sky including what is looks like in the day and night. We discussed constellations and how clouds can take on the shapes of animal and objects. Our How To... writing is in full swing. This is the perfect time of year to practice the step by step writing. Our first piece was how to decorate a Christmas tree. Then, we made hot chocolate and then wrote out the steps that we followed. It was delicious! Next, students will be writing about how to make a snowman. In grammar, we have started learning about verbs. Verbs, verbs, the action words!

Students worked hard on their winter MAP benchmark. They earned a movie & popcorn celebration because of their hard work. Holiday Program is Wednesday, December 14th. 2nd grades performance starts at 1:45.

Hope to see you at the program,
Marissa Wilhelm
