Week of April 16th

Students are learning about graphs and organizing data. Students learned about bar graphs, line plots, and picture graphs, and how to draw conclusions, make predictions, and solve problems. Students surveyed their classmates, made a tally chart and created a graph to organize their data. The Topic 10 (Adding to the 1,000) assessment will be on Tuesday the 17th. The review sheet came home yesterday and is due back on Monday.

Our essential question this week was How can we protect the Earth? which is perfect timing with Earth Day on Monday! One story talked about how in art class, old items could be made new. Students made a mobile out of paper cranes. Vocabulary included Earth resources, rarely, supply and distance. The vocabulary strategy of the week was homophones. We read Dear Deer by Gene Barretta to learn about words that sound alike but are spelled different and have different meanings. Students continued to write their fictional narratives.

We are excited for our field trip next week! Student MUST be bring a 100% disposable lunch on Wednesday, April 25th. Including the lunch bag. Also, make sure your child's name is clearly written on the bag. We will be gone from 9 to 2. While there is a souvenir shop, students will NOT be able to make any purchases so no money please. We are almost done with our food chains and murals. They look amazing! These students are extremely creative. Next week, we will be creating dioramas of our habitats and finishing our Google Slides.

* Our Natural History Museum field trip is on Wednesday.
* Next week we will begin our year-end MAP testing. Thursday the 26th will be Reading and the 3rd will be Math.

Thanks!
