Image result for april clip artI hope everyone had a relaxing spring break. These last few weeks will fly by as we complete our school year. This is always a bitter sweet time as we start to see our time together coming to an end. But also exciting to see students showing how much they have grown and are ready to move on to third grade:)

In math, we are working through Topic 10- Add With 1,00 Using Different Strategies. Many of these strategies are old friends that we learned back in Topic 3 like number line, partial sums and compensation. Look for the Topic 10 review to come home at the end of next week. I'll send an email with it. In addition to Topic 10, we are completing some mini lessons on Topic 13- Measurement, 14- Data & Graphs and 15- Geometry. Hopefully, we will have more time at the end of the year to come back to these topics and complete some hands-on activities.

We finished up our Wonders biography stories that we started before the week. It feels like we were masters of biographies since completing the Wax Museum. Our stories were about Cesar Chavez, Bessie Coleman and Kate Shelley. Before we read, students made predictions based on the title and illustrations what the main idea of the stories would be. Fictional Narrative is our writing project, We class wrote an example about Ella. Maggie and Parker being stranded on a desert island with no water to drink. Dialogue must be included to allow the characters to share their thoughts, feelings and emotions. Open syllables is our FUNdations skill and synonyms are our vocabulary strategy.

We are in full swing of our habitat reports. Our research is complete and students have started their Google Slide presentations in Media with Miss Thies. In the class, students made their food chains and started their murals. We will be heading to The Natural History Museum on Wednesday, April 25th for a culminating activity on habitats. Permission forms must be returned by Friday, April 20th.
·         There is a charge of $7. CHECKS only!!!!!!!!!!! Please return the form and check TOGETHER.
·    Students must bring a 100% disposable lunch on the day. All items must be paper and plastic including water bottles, lunch bags, utensils, etc. Everything will be disposed of after lunch. LABEL clearly your child’s name on the bag.

2nd grade Marco's pizza box night is April 24th.

Enjoy the beautiful weather!
