NO School on Friday 2/15 and Monday 2/18. Jump Rope for Hearts in next Thursday, February 14th so make sure students have gym shoes so they can participate.
Students are bringing home the Topic 9 Review today (Answer Key) which is due back on Tuesday the 19th. We will take the test on Wednesday the 20th. Topic 10 is Add Within 1,000 Using Models & Strategies. Your child is learning about models and strategies to add numbers within 1,000.
He or she will model addition with place-value blocks and represent addition on an
open number line. Your child will also learn how to use the partial sums strategy to
add three-digit numbers. To add using partial sums, first add the hundreds, then
add the tens, and then add the ones. Then add the three partial sums.
Our essential question for the week was How does the earth change? In one story students learned erosion is a change on Earth caused by wind or water. Erosion is a slow change to Earth while volcanoes would be a fast change to earth. Our skill for the week was cause & effect. This can be a difficult skill to identify within a story. The poster below shows that the cause is WHY and the effect is WHAT with key words. It is often easier to identify the effect first and then determine the cause or why it happened. Effect: What?- I needed an umbrella today. Cause: Why?- It was raining.
