Week of September 21st

October is just days away! This week we celebrated the first day of fall by saying goodbye to the pool,  ice cream, shorts and flowers. We are saying hello to changing leaves, rain, coats and acorns. Fall is my favorite season. We also compared and contrasted a fall fiction and nonfiction book. Johnny Appleseed Day was this week so we had an apple taste test. The winning apple was green.

Our story of the week was the fiction story Jessica Loves Soccer. The book came home so students can read it to someone at home. We talked about the parts of a fiction story including characters, setting, problem and solution. Our journal was about our favorite sport.

In math, we are finishing up Topic 2. We made google eye arrays and "array" of sunshine arrays. The Topic 2 assessment will be on Wednesday. Students are bringing home the practice assessment today and it is due back on TUESDAY. Remember to do your best! We will be going over the assessment together so you can skip a question you may not understand.

We had a special presentation on Birds of Prey and learned about the eagles. The camera is up and running here at school so we are waiting for the eagles to come back to their nest. The desk fairy also visited this week and left a treat because we had some clean desks. She said she will be back. Some students think that Mr. Ebert may be the fairy?!?

Picture day is on Wednesday, October 30th. Next week is also spirit week in preparation for Homecoming on Saturday, October 2nd. The spirit days are:
Monday- Favorite Sports Team (College, Professional or Student's Own Team)
Tuesday- Hat Day
Wednesday- Dress-Up Picture Day
Thursday- Hawaiian Day
Friday- Avon Lake Spirit Day
Saturday morning is the Homecoming parade. Come out and see Redwood's float!

Thanks. Enjoy the first weekend of fall,
Miss Wilhelm
