Week of October 12th

Topic 3 math assessment will be next Thursday, October 21st. The review is coming home today and is due next Wednesday, 10/21. Please do the problems that you can and skip those you are unsure. Students can use any strategy to the find the answers.

Our story of the week was The Force of Water. We made a hamburger of the main idea of the Flooding section and continued to practice non-fiction text features like glossary, photographs, captions and table of contents. We will continue to work with this book next week as well. In science, we discussed motion and force including pushing and pulling.

On Monday we had a fire safety talk so our writing prompt for the week was about what to do in case of a fire. Students wrote about checking smoke detectors, stopping, dropping and rolling and checking for hot door handles. I also loved to see students using our commas in the list of stop, drop, and roll! On Tuesday, Omega-Man came and talked to us about being a real life superhero which is a dream maker NOT a dream breaker. He split a bat, tore a phone book and bent a medal pole. We were very impressed! I told the students that I to could do those things! On Wednesday, we had the kick-off for W.O.W.- Walk on Wednesday. Each Wednesday, students, teachers, and all other school personnel will walk  for 15 minutes.  A theme schedule is below.

Next week should be back to "normal" with a full week including sight words on our spelling lists. Enjoy the long weekend!
