Week of October 19th

Today is the end of the 1st quarter. It seems like the first day of school was just yesterday. We have made so much growth already this year! I am excited for the 2nd quarter as we will begin our biography unit. Save the date of  the evening of January 28th for our Wax Museum presentation!

We finished up the Force of Motion book this week. We again focused on nonfiction text features. We also did three water experiments. The first was water cycle in a cup. The clear plastic cup is filled with water and covered with a thin layer of clouds (i.e. shaving cream). Then it rains (i.e. blue food coloring). It is neat to see the rain break through the clouds and combine with the other water. A book we read during the week said that we could be drinking water that dinosaurs once read! Our other experiments were a pumpkin helicopter and pumpkin roll. We also wrote about the pictures we see in the clouds and something children should be allowed to do! Like drink pop, skip school and do whatever they want!

We  officially complete with Topic 3 in math and introduced Topic 4 which is fluently adding within 100. We will be learning the good old version of carrying which Envisions calls regrouping.

We had our first W.O.W. which so much fun! This week's theme is the Halloween colors of orange and black. So in addition to their W.O.W. shirts, students can wear those colors. Our Halloween celebration will be next Friday, October 30th at 9. The party will run before, during and after the parade which starts around 9:15. Everyone is invited to be a part. Students should wear their costumes over their clothes TO school. Then after the parade/party before we go to special, students can take off their costumes. Just a reminder of no weapons. Hope to see you there!

Thanks,
Marissa Wilhelm
