Week of October 5th

How can a four day week seem so long! Thank you for coming in for conferences. I was glad to be able to meet with you and share the growth students have already made and our goals for continued growth. I am working to gather any materials/resources and answer any questions we discussed during conferences.

We had a field trip to the library where we learned about Force and Motion. We learned about force through experiments. If students are trying to pull out the tablecloth from under the set dinner table, this is were they got it from! We are going to try and practice this experiment at school. We did do the paperclip force experiment. Our nonfiction unit continued with Gravity is a Mystery. We also watched a BrainPop video and read additional books in small group. We also had a real life mystery when our raccoon went missing. Our clues of footprints, small pink paper, crumbs and a tardy had us find our suspect... Mrs. Lucas is the office with the raccoon!

We learned the three sounds of the suffix ed. They are /t/, /ed/ and /d/. "Ed" can make different sounds but the spelling is ALWAYS the same. We had our last session of guidance for this quarter and it was a good one! Students demonstrated bravery by trying new foods that students eat around the world.  The snacks included Digestives crackers, Wasabi Peas, Green Pea Crisps and Panda Raspberry Licorice. The look on their faces when they ate the peas was PRICELESS! Another exciting event from this week was the unveiling of the Buddy Bench. (Picture above)This is a spot for students to go if for any reason, they need someone to play with. What a positive way to support being a good friend.

Next week is another BUSY 4 day week with Fire Safety talks, Mega-Man and W.O.W- Walking on Wednesdays. So much to do and so little time to do it!

Don't forget the pumpkin festival tomorrow!
