Week of February 6th
The Wax Museum is THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 16th at 6 P.M.! Please invite your family and friends! Students are to arrive between 5:45 and 5:50 in their costumes. The "museum" will be open from 6 to 7 p.m. We are so EXCITED! Our posters are made, our reports have been read and reread and we are READY to go! See you there!
This week was a good one! At COSI, students learned about storms! Actually, a thunderstorm was made in the gym! Then, students had an opportunity to have hands-on explorations of experiments that reinforced weather. Thank you PTA! This is always a favorite activity! Mrs. Smola, the Speech teacher stopped by and played a exciting activity with us. We had to solve puzzles but making sure to use complete, detailed sentences.
In math, we are practicing telling time to the nearest five minutes with analog and digital clocks. Students made a clock and watch to practice analog clocks. We created a class schedule in which each students illustrated a time of the day with both a digital and analog clock. Next week, we will be finishing the time lessons. Then, we will have some review days before we take the Topic 8 assessment on both Time & Money.
Our Wonders essential question for the week was How are kids around the world different? The skill of the week comparing and contrasting helped us identify the similarities and differences. In Happy New Year, students read about the New Year in America and the New Year in China. Students made lanterns with Chinese characters like those used in the Chinese celebrations. In Dear Primo, cousins who lived in Mexico and America wrote letters to each sharing their customs and celebrations. The comprehension strategy of reread continues to be practiced to reinforce looking back and finding text evidence to support understanding.
