Thursday was our 100th day of school! We are now 100 days smarter! Our day started with a 100th Day of song by Mr. Ebert & Mrs. Lucas! Throughout the day we rolled a die 100 times, wrote 100 words and wrote about how we would spend $100. Students also got a one hundred dollar bill with their picture on it!
In math, we have completed the money lessons of Topic 8. We took a quick in class assessment to see where students are. I will look over them and decided what our next step is. It appears that some of us with still need additional practice with money. The plan as of now is to move onto the time lessons. Like money, we are going to take our "time" with time! Our time objectives are to write and tell time to the nearest 5 minutes using
a.m. and p.m.
In Wonders, our essential question was How does the Earth change? Our stories were about slow changes like erosion and fast changes like volcanoes and wildfires. We recreated a volcano using baking soda, vinegar and dish soap. Volcanoes come in to shapes- cone and shield. Our comprehension strategy was Cause & Effect. One example was Earth looks blue from the sky BECAUSE it is covered by large bodies of water. On our weekly assessment, we took a step back and completed the first assessment together. We reviewed what good readers do which includes: 1. Looking at the questions, 2. Reading and THINKING including underlining and 3. Rereading the questions and stories to find text evidence and checking understand. Students then independently completed the second story on their own.
The Wax Museum is RIGHT around the corner. Students are bringing home a copy of their report. Please practice reading these at home. These reports are to be READ not memorized. Don't forget students need to have a costume the night of the museum Thursday, February 16th from 6 to 7 p.m..
