We are off to a great start! All of our supplies are sorted, stored and ready to be used. We took the first four days to introduce and practice the procedures of the classroom. Don't forget students need an old shirt to be used as a smock in art and headphones for computer.
Next week, we will start Topic 1 in math but this week we explored different math tools like cubes, counters and pattern blocks. We will use these to help solidify our learning. We learned a math game using a deck of cards that helps us practice our addition facts.
Before we jump into our first Wonders stories Monday, we read 2 stories- The Lion and the Mouse (Fiction- Fable) and Meet The Artists (Nonfiction). With each story, our comprehension skills were introduced.
Our first social studies unit of the year is Citizenship which is a big part of the beginning of the year. All year long, we will be working on being a good person at home, school and in the community. After reading The Gingerbread Man Is Loose In The School, we created a school map and discussed the different rules that occur in different places. In What if Everybody Did That?, the class discussed and wrote about situations where one person's choice can influence and affect a bigger situation. Like what if everybody threw a piece of trash out the window or shouted out without raising their hand? Together, the class created the class rules that will make the classroom a safe place where all students will be able to learn and grow.
If you haven't already, follow this link to join PTA. And don't forget to turn in your student fees. Here is the info sheet. Don't forget to keep recording nightly reading in the front of student planners. On Thursday, August 31st, we will be taking our Reading MAP assessments on the Chromebooks. Remember to initial in the front of student planners when they read for 15 minutes each night.
Thank you for your support this first week. It started off hot and the days felt long but everyone worked hard and was successful. I look forward to a great year!
Thanks again,
