Our Wonders essential question for this week was How are families around the world the same and different? In Maria Celebrates Brazil, we visualized what the bright, colorful costumes from the parade would look like. Students did an amazing job with adding details like feather and ruffles to their illustrations. Students identified the parts of the story- characters, setting & events. We learned that when retelling fiction stories, the order matters! Cinderella would have been a different story if it had started with the happy ending! As we prepare to write friendly letters, we evaluated some sample letters written by 2nd graders. This allowed us to see what we need to write a successful letter and what errors to avoid. We completed the August page of our memory book. Each month we will write a reflective paragraph of what we accomplished during the month. August was short but it was sweet!
Since we were learning about Brazil in our story, we decided to take a field trip there! So we board Jet Red with our passports and were off! We learned about the countries culture including the people, animals and food. When we come across cultures in literature and social studies, we will pull out our passports and take a visit!
Next week:
