Happy Thanksgiving! Next week is a 2 day week so the you will have time to spend with family and friends. We did some Thanksgiving activities throughout the week including how to make a pumpkin pie (some students said they would prefer to buy!), thank you notes to Redwood staff members and comparing the Wampanoag & the Pilgrims.
Topic 5 in Envisions is Subtract Within 100 Using Strategies. These strategies include breaking apart numbers, using compensation, using a hundred chart, and using an open number line. Also, your child will also analyze information to model and solve one and two-step word problems. We will finish this topic up after the break. Look for the review the week we get back.
We finished Unit 2 in Wonders with poetry. The essential question for the week was What do we love about animals? Students learned vocabulary found in poetry including rhythm, rhyming, word choice & poem. Our Scholastic News for the week had use reading about a true story of a Pilgrim boy who gets lost in the woods. He then finds himself in a Wampanoag village. We practiced the skills of text evidence & main idea/key details with these stories.
We are continuing to practice our How To writing. On Friday, we made applesauce and wrote about the steps needed. It was delicious! FUNdations Unit 4 is all about suffixes. Students had already learned suffix -s and -es and as learned about plurals so we added -ed and -ing. Also, -er and -est. In grammar, we are wrapping up all things nouns with common/plural, collective and possessive nouns. After the break, we will start into verbs.
Thanks for submitting the baby pictures for the student timelines. They are ADORABLE! Next week we will start to make the timelines so make sure to have the information completed. Here it is if you need a copy. We made a U.S. timeline to see all that has accomplished in the United States since the Pilgrims arrived.
