Thank you for supporting Redwood through the Marco's Pizza Night. Our class had the most orders so we will be having a class pizza party! Once I have it scheduled, I will let you know. THANK YOU!

We wrapped up and tested Topic 5 in math. Topic 6 is Fluently Subtract Within 100. In this topic, students will learn important subtraction skills, such as regrouping and using or drawing place-value blocks to subtract. Students also will learn how to use addition to check the accuracy of subtraction problems and solve problems that require two steps to find the solution. Hopefully, we will have Topic 6 completed before the Winter Break.

Unit 3 in Wonders is all about Living & Learning. Week one's essential question was How do the Earth's forces affect us? This week's stories reinforced our science standards and experiments we completed last quarter. Vocabulary for the stories included force, motion, gravity and position. The skill of the week was author's purpose- determining why the author wrote the passage. In grammar, students are practicing action verbs.

We will continue to complete How To writing projects throughout December. But we also introduced Opinion Letter writing. Students are learning what an opinion is and how to present it and support it with strong, solid details. We had an opinion tug of war where students agreed if Christmas is the best holiday.

The student timelines turned out perfect! They are hanging in the halls and classroom and everyone is stopping to check them out. Our biography for the week was Helen Keller & students completed a timeline of her life. Helen Keller said Life is either a great adventure or nothing.

As we enter the holiday time, I would like to teach our social studies standards of culture with some World celebration with center based activities. If you would be available to come in one day and help with centers, that would be GREAT! I am thinking the week of the 11th on Monday (11th), Wednesday (13th) or Friday (15th). Our schedule is crazy but let me know if you would be interested and what day/times you are available.

Don't Forget...
* Snowflake Shop is on Wednesday, December 6th. Students brought home their list and gift tags. Please return those with money if they will be Christmas Shopping that day.

* Christmas Program in Wednesday, December 13th. 2nd grade performs at 1:45.

* We will be taking our Winter MAP testing the next 2 Thursdays- 7th and 14th. Please try and have students here, well rested and having eaten a good breakfast.

Happy December!
