Week of December 18th
Last full week before Winter Break! The Holiday Program was magical. It really gets you into the holiday spirit!
Our essential question for the week was How can we help the people in our community? One story was about Debby who grew up with no electricity and by age 10 decided she wanted to change other families lives. Another true story took place in Columbia where a man traveled by burro to villages to share his mobile library. What a good skill to reinforce around the holidays!
In writing, students are giving their opinion to Santa about what animal should be pulling his sleigh and How To Decorate A Christmas Tree. In grammar, we are learning the tenses of verbs- past, present and future. We learned that most past verbs ended in "ed" and future start with "will".
We took this holiday time to reinforce our Social Studies standard of how interactions among cultures lead to sharing ways of life. We used a book titled World Holiday to teaches about seven different holidays being celebrated around the world including Hanukkah, Kwanzaa & Ramadan. Celebrations include preparing and eating food, playing games, and telling stories. Students also shared personal traditions that they are a part of during the holidays.
We will take our Topic 6 assessment on Tuesday. Students completed the review in class and we will look over it on Monday.
Next Week:
* 3 day week before Winter break starts.
* I will be out on Monday.
* Wednesday is Pajama Day. Students can wear their pjs and slippers! We will have our class party from 9 to 10. Thanks for helping with this. Everyone is welcomed to come!
Thanks!
