Happy Valentine's Day! Thank you to all the parents who sent items in or were able to attend our celebration. Students had fun stacking candy heart with chopsticks and picking up marshmallows with straws! The popcorn & cupcakes were delicious!
Students took a mid-topic quiz on money this week. Time was introduced. The standards that will be taught are telling time to the 5 minutes on a analog clock, telling time before and after the hour (quarter after, 15 minutes until, etc.) and a.m./p.m. Money review will continue throughout the topic with a culminating topic review over money and time.
In writing, we are wrapping up opinion pieces and supporting our writing with reasons why. In centers, students fixed run-on sentences and wrote ADORABLE stories about a bear who woke up too early from his hibernation. Students wrote about trying to count sheep to fall back to sleep, taking a walk and drinking some warm apple cider! One story had his friend Lion sing him a lullaby. Our essential question for the week was How are kids around the world different? In My Primo, a cousin in Mexico and a cousin in the Unites States wrote each other letters where they learned how different their lives were. Carlitos loved quesadillas, riding his bike to school and living on the farm. Charlie ate pizza, rode the subway and lived in a city skyscraper.
Next week, is the BIG week for the Wax Museum. It is Thursday, February 22nd from 6:30 to 7:15. We practiced in front of the class this week and with our buddies so we are ready for the MAIN EVENT! Here is everything you need to know!
* Students may bring a prop (i.e. stuffed animal, flag, basket, etc.) but the only place they will have to sit it is on the floor.
* Students should arrive between 6:15 to 6:25. They should report to their classrooms. The closing will be announced around 7:10. At this time, students should roll up and take their poster presentations WITH them. This will allow them to safely get their hard work home.
* The museum will open at 6:30 so we ask parents, family and friends to remain in the lobby areas until the museum opens. An announcement will be made when the exhibits are open.
* Each class with have their own assigned entrance/lobby for the museum. Please enter through your child's assigned door. This will help with traffic flow and allow everyone to first see their child and their class.
* The closing of the museum will be announced around 7:10. At that time, please take the poster off the wall and take it with you.
We have COSI next Wednesday at 1 and No School- Monday!
Enjoy the long weekend!
