Week of February 19th

Thank you for making the Wax Museum extraordinary! The costumes were perfect. Thank you for the costumes and attending! What a great night for the students to showcase all of their research and hard work. I am very proud of them. So many students are sad today that it is over! We celebrated one of our museum characters, George Washington to honor of President's Day on Tuesday. Students read about George before he became president and fought with and for his soldiers. With biographies complete, we will begin to move back into science and animal habitats!

Our essential question for the week was How can we understand nature? The genre of our stories this week was drama. Each story had characters including a narrator with talking parts. The character's words and actions allowed students to identify the theme of the stories. Theme or moral is the message the author wants to reader to FEEL. This is an emotion that you feel in your heart. We will complete this unit next week. Our reading assessments will be taken online at school.

We are continuing with telling time to the 5 minute mark. We spent time on the "danger zone" from 45 to 60 as the hour hand is almost to the next hour. Students need to think ahead to what the next hour would be to determine the correct hour. The other time lesson we started was the many names of time. Students learned that 15 is quarter and 30 is half. An example would be 8:15 is 15 past 8 and 45 minutes until 9.

More fun this week as we visited COSI. Thanks to PTA for bringing us this hands-on fun day. Students learned about chemistry and were able to make their own slime! FUN! FUN! FUN!

Conferences next Thursday evening (after school) and all day Friday. No schools for students Friday.

Enjoy the weekend!
