Week of May 7th
Thank you is not enough to say for all of the love and appreciation shown to me this week. It has been an honor and privilege being your child's teacher this year. The greatest gift of the week was when a students said that she finally understands a skill she has been working on. An aha moment that makes the daily grind and struggles all worth it! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Thank you to the High School for hosting 2nd grade for a band and orchestra concert. It was a great ended to Mrs. Orr's music unit.
We completed all of the lessons for Topic 11- Subtraction Within 1,000. Students will complete the review Monday and grade it here at school. Review it Monday night at home and take the test on Tuesday. The remainder of our math lessons for the year will be a review of the measurement, data and geometry units we worked on last month.
We are working on way through our Me On A Map unit. Students have created a map of their bedroom, home and neighborhood. The students loved when we used Google Maps to see their houses! I love seeing students coming to school with maps that they have made at home!
We completed our Wonders stories about forms of energy. The stories included many different forms of energy including electricity, wind and solar. One story was about the Water Cycle which goes right along with our weather science unit. This week we learned about the 4 different types of clouds. We did an experiment and spelled r-controlled words on cumulus shaving cream clouds! R-controlled syllables are the FUNdations skill of the week (er, ir and ur all make the same 'r' sound) and adjectives are the grammar skill.
Thanks!
