Glad to see moms, grandmas, aunts and special ladies at PTA Muffins with Mom! Don't worry dads, you will have doughnuts later this year!
In Wonders, we answered the essential question of how are offspring like their parents? This included learning about the life cycle and how it goes from child to adult and then stats ALL over again. The nonfiction stories talked about eaglets which we sure know a lot about and baby bears. A cool facts that we all LOVED was that adult turtles return to the beach that they were born on to lay their eggs. We wondered how do they know where the beach is after having swam around in the ocean for years? We also started some animal poetry. Poetry is a writing style were author's can express their thoughts and feelings using rhythm and rhymes. In grammar, students practiced common and proper nouns. In FUNdations, suffixes is the skill including the rules of s (s, es or ies) and the sounds of ed (ed, d or t). We are learning about procedural writing where you write the materials and steps needed to complete a task. I demonstrated for the class how to brush your teeth! Starting with the supplies needed, then saying your ABC's 3 times, rinsing and flossing (NOT the dance!).
Students completed their habitat research project. They turned out great! Now, we are traveling back into social studies for our biography unit. This unit will end with our 2nd grade showcase- The Wax Museum. Save the date now... Thursday, January 31st from 6:30 to 7:15. Today, students are bringing home the name of their historical individual. All of the research and projects will be completed in the classroom. The help we will need from home is the night of January 31st, students need to come dressed as their individual. You do not need to buy expense costumes. Just find things around home, make something or check out Goodwill. It is the BEST day of the year!
Students are bringing home their Snowflake Shop information. We are shopping in the afternoon.
Only 2 days next week! I am thankful for you and your children. This class is a very special class and I am thankful for them!
Thanks,
Marissa Wilhelm
