Week of January 22nd

This week started with an extra bonus day to make it a 4-day weekend! On Wednesday, we celebrated the life of Martin Luther King Jr. as a conclusion to our biography unit. Students read a Scholastic News about Dr. King's granddaughter Yolanda. She is working to change the world just like her grandfather. Students also made a timeline of his life and made a dove to represent the peace that he fought for. Our Wax Museum is next week on Thursday, January 31st at 6:30 p.m.. Here again is some information to note for that evening:

* Students should arrive to the classroom in their costumes between 6:15 to 6:25.
* The museum will open at 6:30 so we ask parents, family and friends to remain in the lobby areas until the museum opens. An announcement will be made when the exhibits are open.
*  The closing will be announced around 7:10. At this time, students should roll up and take their poster presentations WITH them. This will allow them to safely get their hard work home.
* Each class with have their own assigned entrance/lobby for the museum. Please enter through your child's assigned door. This will help with traffic flow and allow everyone to first see their child and their class.
Wilhelm- Parents will come into the building through the doors located by the playground (northeast side of building). The recess/2nd grade dismissal door for walker/car riders. Our class presentations will line start right once you enter the building down the 3rd/2nd grade hallway.

The temperatures for next week especially Wednesday and Thursday look bitter cold. If we were not to have school on Thursday, the Wax Museum would be CANCELLED. The make-up day would be the following Thursday, February 7th.

We took the Topic 8 assessment on Time & Money today. This is a life skill that we will continue to practice weekly so we are all secure and have mastered these skills. Topic 9 is Numbers to 1,000. In this topic, your child is learning to read and write numbers to 1,000. Your child will use place value, or the value of each digit in a number, to identify and record 3-digit numbers in expanded, standard, and word form. Your child will also learn how to skip count by 5s, 10s, and 100s on a number line, and compare numbers using place value and a number line. He or she will also be using mathematical reasoning involving place value to solve problems.

We completed Unit 3 in Wonders and will be starting Unit 4- Our Life, Our World. The Big Idea is how do different environments make the world a better place?

Stay warm this weekend!
